Viva
Viva was all about the water. She loved all things fishing and it was not unusual to find her on base fishing or crabbing for Maryland blue crabs after a 12 hour day at work. We always imagined ourselves getting a nice house right on the water when I retired from the Navy so she could go fishing everyday and while we always wanted a boat, those ambitions were never more then a small fishing boat. In 2008 Viva was diagnosed with AML cancer or Acute myeloid leukemia. She would fight it with the help of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for 10 years before finally losing her battle on February 1st 2018. It goes without saying that this irrevocably changed me and the course of my life. I was adrift, with no direct, and no will. I wouldn’t say I was suicidal, but I just didn’t care if I lived or died, but I went on as she would have wanted.
SALTY DOGS
Umi – Viva’s dog
Pike – Umi’s dog
Fenris – Rebecca’s dog
Rescued summer 2011, Fenris stood protectively by my side through an extended period of upheaval and change. Present for almost every adventure, she lived aboard three boats and sailed 500+ nautical miles. Fenris passed from heart failure and was buried at sea Jan-2021.
